Diver in the water holding up Silver Dollars.Ty Swartz is an Educator, Marketing Strategist and Retired Navy Chief Petty Officer who works with clients to create beautiful storytelling imagery. The secret to storytelling through photography is building honest relationships and listening more than speaking. After spending two decades as a naval photojournalist and public relations manager covering stories in over 70 countries, Ty truly knows how one image can emotionally impact any story.

Ty has landed images in newspaper, magazines and broadcast outlets internationally and worked on feature films; The Antwone Fisher Story, The Sum of All Fears, Pearl Harbor, The Core. Ty also worked on the television shows; Late Nite with Jay Leno, JAG, NCIS, 24, The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune and Operation Junkyard. His storytelling images and videos have been featured in the Washington Post, LA Times, New York Post, ABC, NBC, CBS, ESPN, CNN, and MSNBC.

Since retiring from the Navy, Ty has enjoyed teaching technology, Adobe Creative Cloud, photography, and video to High School and middle school students for the City of Chesapeake, Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Teaching is a passion because seeing a struggling student work hard towards a goal and then seeing that “light bulb” glow is an emotional high. That emotion rates as high as seeing a Sailor return to their family after a long deployment.

This same passion is what drives Ty to create storytelling images. When you look at a photograph, you have an emotional story frozen in time. Ty specializes in engagements, weddings, boudoir and senior photography because each one are life-changing events. Each subject is a unique moment in a person’s life, once captured is their forever story.

Ty holds a BS in Workforce, Education, and Development with a specialization in Training from Southern Illinois University, MBA’s in Project Management and Marketing from Brenau University. Ty also holds a Communication Certificate from the University of Oklahoma and a Career Switcher Certificate from Regent University, along with a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License in Marketing, Business and Information Technology, Technology Education and Middle Ed (6-8) Science.

Ty is one of less than 2,000 Certified Professional Photographers (CPP) in the United States and a CPP Liaison. CPP Liaisons assist candidates and existing CPPs as subject matter experts and sources of information. Each liaison must maintain his or her certification and PPA Membership and is entrusted with responsibilities to maintain the integrity of the program.
